Purple Beauty Bell Pepper (Pepper 'Purple Beauty') is a uniquely colored heirloom variety. Both the fruit and the blooms are purple! This plant is sturdy and compact, developing peppers in approximately 60-80 days. Purple Beauty Bell Peppers are antioxidant rich and a good source of vitamin C. The mild flavor makes them great for eating fresh. Purple Beauty Bell Peppers have thick walls that make this fruit perfect for cooking with. As an added bonus, Purple Beauty Bell Pepper is disease resistant.
Purple Beauty Bell Pepper Care
Purple Beauty Bell Pepper is hardy in USDA zones 8-12 as a perennial, and elsewhere it is grown as an annual. A mature-sized plant can reach a height of 24-28 inches tall, and a spread of 15-18 inches wide. Plant Purple Beauty in full sun after the last frost has passed, in an average, well-draining potting mix. A sun shade may be necessary in late summer during the harsh midday sun.
Growing Purple Beauty Bell Pepper
Start Purple Beauty Bell Pepper indoors during the early spring months. Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outside. Transplant this pepper outdoors late May through early July.
For best results, transplant Purple Beauty directly into a garden bed with a 24-inch row spacing. Fruits will appear mid to late summer and are approximately 3.5-4 inches long. For plants grown in containers, select a pot that is at least 16 inches in diameter with adequate drainage hole.
Watering Purple Beauty Bell Pepper
Purple Beauty Bell Pepper has moderate moisture requirements. Water your plant about every other day to ensure the soil doesn’t stay dry for too long.
Feeding Purple Beauty Bell Pepper
Purple Beauty Bell Pepper plants are moderate to heavy feeders. Fertilize biweekly with a balanced, general-purpose fertilizer. Then, as fruits develop, switch to a phosphorus- and potassium-rich fertilizer.
