Are you looking for something to spice up your cooking? Known to be one of the hottest peppers, this spicy hot habanero will knock you off your tastebuds with a smoky, sweet, citrus flavor and a Scoville rating of 100,000 – 350,000 SHU! In addition, this pepper features 1.5 to 2 inch-long fruits with a vivid red-hot color that adds color to any plate or dish. Eat them fresh or dry them with no loss of spice or flavor. This compact plant produces a high yield of peppers, up to 5 pounds per plant, and adds great color to your garden before harvest.

Red Habanero Hot Pepper Care

This plant prefers an area with full sun and slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Sow seeds one-quarter inch deep into the ground, with a spacing of 12 to 24 inches per plant. To get the highest yield possible, trim off any flowers you see until they are ready to be transplanted in the ground. Harvest fruits once they have reached the desired size by cutting the stem about one-half inch up from the fruit. If they are green, that’s fine; place them on a windowsill, and they will continue to ripen.

Growing Red Habanero Hot Pepper

Start seeds indoors eight weeks before the last frost in your region; they should germinate in about 14 days. Once the soil outside is consistently warm, plant them outside in an area that receives full sun, spaced 12 to 24 inches apart.

The Red Habanero Hot Pepper is perfect for growing in containers due to its compact form. Pot each plant in a container of no less than 5 gallons. Put this pot anywhere that gets at least 6 hours of sunshine daily in a well-draining potting soil mix.

Watering Red Habanero Hot Pepper

Water this pepper just before the leaves begin to wilt. They don’t need excessive water, so check the soil before you water and ensure they are ready for it.

Feeding Red Habanero Hot Pepper

Fertilize when the seedlings are six weeks old with a nitrogen fertilizer. This pepper loves magnesium and calcium, so feed with a fertilizer high in those elements. Proper fertilizing will increase harvest and the quality of the fruits!
