Feature

Redemption™ Colocasia displays jet-black foliage with a hot pink center and pink veining that deepens when the weather turns warm. Redemption™ Colocasia brings a tropical look to part-sun patios without needing flowers to carry the show. It forms a tight clump that tops out around 3–4 feet tall and wide. Our landscape designers rely on it when a space needs one strong color move that still looks clean next to stone, water, or modern hardscape.

This herbaceous Colocasia hybrid  grows fast once nights stay warm and the soil stays consistently moist. The leaves emerge darker as they mature, and the pink pattern becomes more noticeable as the plant settles in. It’s a strong choice for poolside plantings, rain-garden edges, or mixed borders to provide contrast against lighter foliage. In Zones 7–11 it can overwinter in the ground, while colder areas can treat it as a seasonal centerpiece and store the tuber for next year.

Redemption™ Colocasia Care

Give Redemption™ Colocasia part sun, ideally with some afternoon shade in the hottest climates so the leaves stay in good condition. Plant in organically rich, well-drained soil that holds moisture, because droughty ground will slow it down and can cause edge burn. It isn't finicky about soil pH, but mildly acidic to neutral conditions are a comfortable range.

Keep the soil evenly moist and water deeply when the leaves start to droop. Feed with a balanced fertilizer throughout the growing season to support large leaves and steady color. After frost, the foliage collapses and the plant goes dormant.

Remove tired or torn leaves at the base during the season to keep the clump neat and to open space for new growth. Once cold weather arrives, cut remaining foliage back to the soil line. In colder zones, lift the tuber after the first frost, let it dry briefly, then store it cool and barely moist until spring.

Redemption™ Colocasia Spacing

Space plants about 3–4 feet apart so each clump can widen without crowding, especially in humid spots where airflow helps leaf quality. For containers, start with a 16–20 inch pot and size up to support larger leaves and more stable moisture.

Suitable landscape companions include ferns and hostas for a layered look in part shade that keeps the soil cooler. In containers, underplant with begonias and add fuchsia nearby in a separate pot to echo the pink tones without competing for root space.
