The Reeves Spirea is a showy shrub that offers different visual elements throughout the growing season. Also known as Spiraea cantoniensis, this shrub features snow white, 5-petaled flowers with a hint of pink in the spring. The flowers grow in pom pom-like clusters that line arching branches, giving the shrub a fountain-like appearance. The green leaves turn spectacular shades of golden yellow and deep red by fall.

Feature this ornamental beauty in a mixed bed or border. Use it to create a privacy hedge or define different areas of a backyard. This deciduous shrub is heat and drought tolerant, making it a good choice for a challenging landscape or hands-off gardeners. Reeves Spirea is pollinator friendly and supports butterflies.

Reeves Spirea Care

Plant Reeves Spirea in full sun to partial shade. Provide rich, loamy soil with good drainage. New plants need regular water, while established plants need water during a long dry spell. Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer each spring.

Prune Reeves Spirea after the flowers fade. Apply a layer of mulch around the base of the shrub to protect the roots from cold weather.

Reeves Spirea Spacing

Reeves Spirea stands 4 to 6 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide. Space shrubs 3 to 4 feet apart to create a dense hedge.
