This plant is native to tropical rainforests, where it is used to being shaded by tree cover. That means you’ll want to give it bright indirect light. Overexposure to direct sunlight can cause leaf burn. However, this plant can also tolerate low light conditions.

The Shingle Plant needs rich, well-draining soil to thrive. Make sure you have proper drainage to avoid root rot. 

To successfully grow this plant, you’ll need to provide a structure for it to climb. You can use a moss pole, moss board, wooden board or tree branch. Secure your plant by using soft string or vinyl plant tape. It will eventually grab on by itself.

Watering Rhaphidophora Hayi Shingle Plant Plant

This plant needs to be kept moist throughout the spring and summer. Generally, water it about three times a week, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. During the winter, cut back watering to once a week. You may also mist the plant every few days to encourage growth. Make sure not to overwater your Shingle Plant. Yellowing leaves indicate that you’ve given it too much water.

This plant also loves humidity—at least 70 percent humidity is preferred. Use a humidifier or place a pebble tray nearby. You can also keep it in a humid room like the bathroom, where it will benefit from shower mist.
