It’s no wonder the heirloom Rosa Bianca Eggplant Plant has been a long-established favorite of home growers. It produces delicious lavender-and-white fruits up to 4 to 6 inches across that are loved by chefs for their creamy taste. Being easy to grow, Rosa Bianca is a great first eggplant to try growing at home. If grown in the right conditions, you could be harvesting these attractive fruits in as few as 75 days from planting.

Rosa Bianca Eggplant Plant Care

With a relatively long growing season, the Rosa Bianca Eggplant should be planted once the last frost has passed and the temperatures are reliably above 60 to 65°F. This eggplant tends to grow to around 30 to 36 inches high and 18 to 24 inches wide; when planting more than one Rosa Bianca, a spacing of 2 feet apart is advisable. To prevent its roots from sitting in overly wet soil, plant it in free-draining compost.

Growing Rosa Bianca Eggplant Plant

As with all eggplants, Rosa Bianca likes to be grown in a sheltered spot in full sun. If growing this eggplant from seed, it can be sown indoors around 10 weeks before the last frost date. In colder areas, Rosa Bianca can be grown in a greenhouse to help provide the warmth it requires.

When grown in a container, a minimum pot size of 12-14 inches wide and deep is necessary to support this eggplant. Since it prefers free-draining soil, any container chosen must have adequate drainage holes.

Watering Rosa Bianca Eggplant Plant

Eggplants can tolerate hot and dry conditions; however for the best fruits, a consistently moist soil is necessary. When grown in a pot, eggplants will require watering more frequently than if grown in the ground.

Feeding Rosa Bianca Eggplant Plant

Like all nightshade plants, eggplants can benefit from being given extra nutrients during the growing season. A balanced liquid fertilizer can be applied every two weeks from early summer onwards.
