Growing Zones
Flowering profusely in early or mid-spring, the Royal Heritage™ Lenten Rose is ideal for brightening up the start of the year. Also called, Helleborus x Royal Heritage™, this Lenten Rose produces dark green foliage against white to deep purple blooms for a beautiful contrast. Royal Heritage™ is a vigorous hellebore that grows to around 2 feet tall.
Being low maintenance, the Royal Heritage™ Lenten Rose tends to look after itself once established. Tolerated by deer, the foliage is evergreen and attractive in winter. This plant is often used for underplanting and woodland gardens due to its love of shade. You can also grow Royal Heritage™ Lenten Rose in a container or pot. It is suited to growing in zones 5 to 8.
Royal Heritage™ Lenten Rose Care
As a shade-loving perennial, Royal Heritage™ Lenten Rose prefers either full or partial shade. When it comes to the soil, it favors rich and moist, yet well-drained soil that is alkaline or neutral. Regular irrigation is needed to prevent the soil from drying out. For the best flowering display, you can feed this hellebore with a general slow-release fertilizer in late spring.
In late winter, you can remove any old and brown foliage to make way for the new growth. Its blooms will remain attractive for many months, and can be removed in spring to tidy up the plant. Divide mature plants in the autumn as required.
Royal Heritage™ Lenten Rose Spacing
As a vigorous hellebore, Royal Heritage™ Lenten Rose can reach 18 to 24 inches high and 24 to 36 inches across. A spacing of around 30 to 36 inches is recommended when planting it out as a group.
