Growing to around half the size of a normal cucumber plant, the Salad Bush Cucumber Plant is ideal for a patio or balcony or if you are simply running out of growing space. With its bush-like habit, it is perfectly suited to growing in a container with a bit of support. With good fungal disease resistance, Salad Bush Cucumber is easy to grow and a great first cucumber plant to try your hand at. You could be harvesting its 8-inch-long, tasty, green cukes in a matter of weeks.
Salad Bush Cucumber Care
As with all cucumber plants, Salad Bush cannot tolerate low temperatures or frost and should only be placed outside once the temperatures are consistently above 65 °F. Preferring to be grown in full sun, Salad Bush thrives when grown in a sheltered south-facing spot. To support its growth and prolific fruit production, a rich and fertile soil that is free-draining is recommended.
Growing Salad Bush Cucumber Plant
Even though the Salad Bush Cucumber Plant remains amazingly compact and tends to only grow to a maximum height and spread of 3-4 feet, it will still benefit from a trellis or stake to support it. This cucumber can either be grown outdoors in a sunny spot out of the wind or in a greenhouse or polytunnel. When given enough sunlight and warmth, Salad Bush Cucumber can produce pickable fruits in around 57 days.
When growing Salad Bush in a container, a minimum pot width of 12-16 inches is recommended. As with all cukes, a fresh and fertile compost is required to help supply the nutrients they require.
Watering Salad Bush Cucumber Plant
For a continuous supply of tasty cucumbers all summer long, it is important to keep the soil as consistently moist as possible. With a tendency to dry out more quickly than when planted in the ground, any container-grown plants will need to be watered frequently.
Feeding Salad Bush Cucumber Plant
To help ensure this cucumber remains healthy and productive all season long, a fertilizer should be applied. Once the first flowers begin to form, a liquid vegetable feed can be applied every 2 to 4 weeks.
