If you’re into trailing stems and variegated foliage, then make sure to check out the Sanna Tradescantia. The stems can easily grow several feet long and have a branching form, resulting in a large and bushy plant. The ribbon-like leaves gently curl and feature stripes in various shades of green with white accents. Tradescantias are also known as inch plant, spiderwort, and wandering dude.
Best Locations For Growing Sanna Tradescantia
The Sanna Tradescantia is a showy, vining plant that is a natural fit for a hanging basket or a high shelf that allows the stems to trail. A plant hanger near a sunny window is a good pick, while a kitchen or bathroom window provides the increased humidity this plant craves. Tradescantias can live in any room of the home with good sunlight. This plant will appreciate a humidifier, especially if you live in a dry climate.
Tradescantias are poisonous to people and animals. Eating any part of a Tradescantia will cause discomfort and distress, so be careful if you have young kids or pets.
Sanna Tradescantia Sunlight Requirements
Give the Sanna Tradescantia bright, indirect sunlight. A good location is often close to an east- or west-facing window. A south-facing window with a sheer curtain to diffuse the sunlight will also work well. This plant is a fast grower when it has plenty of sunlight. Increased light also brings out the variegation, creating more vivid colors. Direct sunlight may burn the thin foliage, although the plant can be slowly acclimated to handle limited amounts of direct sunlight.
Sanna Tradescantia Care
Pinch back new growth on the ends of stems to encourage branching and a full form. Tradescantia can quickly become straggly, so remove any bare stems. Propagate and plant the cuttings with the parent plant, ensuring a continually dense plant. Repot Sanna Tradescantia using a rich, moist, and well-drained potting mix.
Watering Sanna Tradescantia
Plants grown in increased light will need water more often. Plan to water your Sanna Tradescantia every 7 to 10 days when the top few inches of potting soil are dry. The plant will need water less often in the winter, and continue to wait until the top two to three inches of soil are dry. Tradescantia can live in average or above-average humidity. Expect more exuberant growth when the plant is in a location with increased moisture in the air.
Feeding Sanna Tradescantia
Tradescantias are prolific growers, and some assistance from you in the form of fertilizer will help the plant push out new leaves. For best results, use a fertilizer with a 3-1-2 ratio, although a balanced formula will suffice. Water-soluble plant food is a good choice because it is simple to apply and eliminates the risk of root damage. Feed your Sanna Tradescantia monthly during the spring and summer.

Plant Shipping
Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.
Winter to Early Spring
We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.
Fall into Winter
We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!
