Shining Sensation Weigela gives your landscape color contrast in one pretty package. Each spring, trumpet-shaped flowers emerge that are hot pink and plentiful. They form against the backdrop of deep red to maroon leaves. The dark leaves are shiny, adding to the texture and garden interest of this weigela. Birds and butterflies flock to the hot-pink blooms.

At a height of nearly 6 feet and 5 feet around, Shining Sensation Weigela makes a truly sensational statement in a container, as an accent plant to larger or smaller growers, or as a hedge. At moderate growth rate, it's a perfect hedge or screen plant. The weigela will take some time to reach full size and is easy to care for, but not a slow grower. Shining Sensation is hardy to 0 degrees, so it grows in zones 5 through 8. Its compact growth habit means the weigela also is versatile enough to serve as a container thriller.

Shining Sensation Weigela Care

Plant Shining Sensation Weigela in full sun for best results. Mulch around the base of the plant to help keep the area above the roots cool and moist. Weigelas have medium water needs and might require a little more help when in full bloom or during peak summer heat. Otherwise, it is easy to care for weigela. You can prune Shining Sensation after it finishes flowering in spring. If you fertilize, wait to add the food until after the first rush of flowers shows in spring.

Shining Sensation Weigela Spacing

For a beautiful red and pink hedge or border, place each Shining Sensation Weigela about 4 feet from the center of the neighboring one.
