Prayer plants are highly sought after by collectors due to their ornamental foliage and characteristic movement throughout the day. Maranta leuconeura ‘Silver Band’ features a muted silver stripe running down the center of its large, ovoid leaves, lending a more refined appearance compared to other prayer plants. In its native habitat of Central and South America, the Silver Band Maranta forms a thick ground cover, spreading underground through its roots. When grown indoors, this plant develops a dense, mounded shape that adds lush greenery to any space.

Best Locations For Growing Silver Band Maranta

Prayer plants thrive in any room with bright natural light and average humidity. They also flourish in high-humidity environments, making bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms ideal locations. Maranta are classified as air-purifying plants and have a calming presence when placed in bedrooms and offices. Additionally, they are non-toxic and safe to grow near children and pets.

Silver Band Maranta Sunlight Requirements

East or north-facing windows provide the bright, indirect light necessary for the Silver Band to maintain its vibrant coloration and vigorous growth. Early morning sun is preferable, as intense direct light during the hottest parts of the day can fade and scorch the delicate leaves.

Silver Band Maranta Care

Choose an indoor potting mix that balances peat-free ingredients like coco coir, perlite, vermiculite, and composted organic material. Ensuring good drainage from both the potting mix and the container is crucial to prevent the roots from becoming waterlogged and susceptible to rot. To expand your collection, propagate any side shoots pruned off by placing them in water.

Watering Silver Band Maranta

Water the Silver Band once or twice a week during the growing season in spring and summer, allowing only the top 1-2 inches of potting mix to dry between waterings. As daylight shortens in fall and winter, reduce the watering frequency to every 7-14 days, depending on the humidity and light conditions. Misting the plant can help increase humidity; however, use distilled or filtered tap water to prevent unsightly spots on the leaves.

Feeding Silver Band Maranta

A liquid, balanced houseplant fertilizer is suitable for feeding Maranta during the spring and summer months. Apply it at half the recommended dosage, taking care not to wet the leaves, as this can cause marking or burning. No feeding is necessary during the winter months.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
