Feature
The Silver Monstera or Monstera siltepecana as it is also called, is a slightly lesser-known relative of the infamous Monstera deliciosa. As an evergreen vine, it provides interest all-year round and is perfect for adding an exotic feel to your home or office space. Its fascinating foliage changes over time: the leaves start off bright green with silver or gray markings and mature into larger, dark-green forms with holes or fenestrations present. Silver Monstera is a fantastic houseplant that can either be allowed to trail down or climb vertically with support.
Best Locations For Growing Silver Monstera
Silver Monstera is considered a toxic plant and thus care must be taken if growing this plant around children or pets. That aside, it can be grown in any room as long as it has space to grow and is provided with high humidity. The Silver Monstera tends to thrive in bathrooms or kitchens.
Silver Monstera Sunlight Requirements
This Monstera prefers to be grown in a spot where it receives bright, indirect light. However, it is best to avoid placing it near a south-facing window, as the harsh afternoon sun can damage its wonderful foliage.
Silver Monstera Care
Being a tropical plant, the Silver Monstera is best grown within a temperature range of60-95°F and in high humidity levels. If growing this plant in a dry room, it will benefit from misting every other day or visiting a warm and humid bathroom or kitchen regularly. If grown in a terrarium, Silver Monstera will remain a small size. However, if given space to trail or a moss pole for support, it can grow quite substantially.
Watering Silver Monstera
The Silver Monstera prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil; if its roots sit in overly wet or soggy soil, they may rot. On average, water weekly or when the top inch or two of soil has dried out.
Feeding Silver Monstera
Feeding the Silver Monstera is similar to most other monsteras, in that a monthly feed of weakly diluted houseplant fertilizer during the growing season is recommended. However, this plant does not need feeding during the winter months as the plant goes semi-dormant.
