Whether you need a dependable plant for a difficult area, you haven’t had much luck with houseplants, or you simply like the sword-shaped, variegated foliage, the Silver Streak Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata) is what you’ve been looking for. A silver stripe runs down the center of the dark-green leaves, and silver specks dot the margins. Sansevieria are slow-growers, but they are also easy plants to maintain. Their care involves a small degree of neglect, which is part of their appeal.
Best Locations For Growing Silver Streak Snake Plant
Snake Plants like to be warm. If the temperature is comfortable for you, then your plant will be fine, but avoid drafty areas. Try to select a spot that is naturally dry or at least has average humidity. Damp rooms, like kitchens and bathrooms, are not ideal, but a sunny living room or even a hallway with medium light is a good location.
Silver Streak Snake Plant Sunlight Requirements
Consistent, indirect light is best for the Silver Streak Snake Plant. This sun-loving plant can handle some direct sunlight, so place it in front of a south- or east-facing window. Too much direct light may damage the leaves, so check for scorch marks. The adaptable Sansevieria can also live in medium light. Plants grown in medium light will grow slowly, but they can still add greenery to an area other plants cannot call home.
Silver Streak Snake Plant Care
Snake Plants do not need constant care, and this houseplant will be fine if you forget to check on it for a couple of weeks. It will do its thing if it has plenty of sunlight and dry conditions. Remove any dead or damaged foliage to encourage new growth.
Watering Silver Streak Snake Plant
Silver Streak Snake Plants like arid conditions. Average humidity is fine, but dry air with no moisture is best. Allow the soil to dry out all the way through before watering. After watering, remove excess water from the tray or cover pot. Allowing a Sansevieria to sit in standing water is possibly the worst thing to happen to this plant.
Feeding Silver Streak Snake Plant
Snake Plants can get by without fertilizer, but feeding the plants at the start of the growing season can set them up for success. Use a balanced fertilizer and dilute it with water. Feed just once in the spring. Do not feed the Silver Streak Snake Plant during the winter when the plant is dormant.
