Growing Zones
A living waterfall of blossom and grace, Snow Fountains® drapes itself in thousands of pure white, single flowers each spring, cascading from a tidy head into a soft, ground-skimming skirt.
The compact stature (typically 8–12 ft tall by 6–10 ft wide) makes it a showpiece for courtyards, front entries, and small lawns, while golden-to-apricot fall color and elegant winter tracery keep the display going long after the petals have fallen.
Snow Fountains® Weeping Cherry Tree Care
Plant in full sun for the heaviest bloom and best fall color. Choose well-drained soil—loam or amended clay—with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, and mix in compost at planting. Water deeply and regularly the first 1–2 seasons to establish; afterward, provide occasional deep soakings during extended dry spells.
Lay a 2–3" mulch ring to conserve moisture and protect the shallow root system, keeping mulch a few inches off the trunk. Because most trees are grafted to a standard, promptly remove any shoots emerging from below the graft union, and avoid burying the graft.
Prune after flowering: lift or thin only what’s needed to keep a clear trunk, open the canopy for airflow, and encourage a layered, fountain-like form—skip heavy winter cuts that reduce spring bloom. Good siting and steady moisture help minimize common cherry stresses such as borers and cankers. Hardy in about USDA Zones 5–8.
Snow Fountains® Weeping Cherry Tree Spacing
As a focal specimen, allow 8–10+ feet of open space so the skirt can drape naturally and remain easy to mow or mulch beneath. For a pair flanking a path or drive, space 10–12 feet on center for balanced symmetry.
Along low walls or near patios, keep 6–8 feet from hardscape to accommodate the cascading habit and maintenance access. Not ideal for long-term container culture, but large planters can work for several years with diligent watering and root pruning.
