A living waterfall of blossom and grace, Snow Fountains® Weeping Cherry Tree drapes itself in thousands of pure white, single flowers each spring. Its cascading branches become fuller and broader over time, forming a soft, ground-skimming skirt. Botanically listed as Prunus x 'Snofozam', it typically matures about 8–15 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide, depending on training. We recommend it for a garden island or lawn focal point where the branch structure can be seen in winter as well as bloom season.
This deciduous ornamental cherry flowers in spring, carries glossy green foliage through summer, and shifts to gold and orange tones in fall. The small dark fruits are not grown for eating, but birds may use them as a seasonal food source. Its slow growth and narrow mature spread make it useful near patios, walkways, and entry gardens where a larger flowering tree would crowd the space. Plant it alone as a specimen, repeat it along a broad border, or let the branches cascade near stonework where the form can be appreciated from every angle.
Snow Fountains® Weeping Cherry Tree Care
Plant Snow Fountains® Weeping Cherry Tree in full sun, with 6–8 hours of direct light for the heaviest bloom. It grows best in moist, moderately fertile, well-drained loam, but it can adapt to other soil textures when drainage is good. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil, around pH 6.0–7.0.
Water at the base when the top 2 inches of soil are dry, especially during the first growing season while roots are establishing. After it settles in, water during extended dry weather rather than on a fixed daily schedule. Feed once in early spring with a slow-release tree and shrub fertilizer before new growth begins, and expect full dormancy after fall leaf drop.
Prune lightly after flowering or in very early spring to remove broken, crossing, or inward-growing branches. Avoid cutting away the natural weeping framework unless a branch is damaged or disrupting the shape. Keep mulch over the root area to moderate soil moisture, but leave a clear gap around the trunk and graft union.
Snow Fountains® Weeping Cherry Tree Spacing
Space Snow Fountains® Weeping Cherry Tree 8–10 feet from walkways, patios, and low plantings so the branches can drape naturally. Leave 12–15 feet between trees for a repeated planting, and give it enough open space that the canopy does not brush siding or fences. For containers, use a large 24–30 inch planter only for a young tree as a temporary patio feature before moving it into the ground. Pair it in the landscape with bluebeard for late-season flowers, hellebore for early shade interest beneath the canopy, and creeping phlox near the outer edge where sun still reaches the ground.
