The bright orange blooms of the Solenia® Chocolate Orange Begonia really stand out against its dark green-brown foliage. Also known as Begonia x hiemalis, Solenia® Chocolate Orange grows to around 12 inches with a mounded habit. Its double flowers are not only cheering, but reblooming and will continue all season long.
The Solenia® Chocolate Orange Begonia is perfect for adding some color and interest to your garden. This annual is well suited to edging a border or pathway, or growing in a container or hanging basket. It is considered hardy in zones 9 to 11. Deadheading is not required.
Solenia® Chocolate Orange Begonia Care
The Solenia® Chocolate Orange Begonia performs best when grown in full sun to partial shade. It prefers fertile, moist and free-draining soil. Water frequently to keep the soil moist, but not wet or soggy. Fertilizing at the beginning of the growing season with a slow-release balanced feed will help support reblooming. Container-grown plants will also benefit from applications of a diluted liquid fertilizer twice a month.
In warmer parts, protect this begonia from any winter frosts. Alternatively, bring containers indoors to overwinter or dig up the corms to store and replant in spring. When grown in a container, more frequent irrigation will be required to prevent the soil from drying out.
Solenia® Chocolate Orange Begonia Spacing
The Solenia® Chocolate Orange Begonia grows to around 8 to 12 inches tall and wide. When grown as a bedding plant, a spacing of 10 inches will provide a mass of color.
