This shows how the plant is typically used in a container combo — Thriller (tall focal point), Filler (mid-height mass), or Spiller (trailing over the edge).
Tip: match plant habit to the role for the best designs.
Solera™ Purple stands out for its saturated purple blooms paired with darker foliage, a combination that gives containers real depth. Pelargonium interspecific Solera™ Purple forms a tight, mounded plant about 12–14 inches tall and 12–14 inches wide, filling space without sprawling. The interspecific breeding keeps it flowering steadily through heat when many traditional geraniums slow down. That rich purple tone holds strong in bright light and doesn’t fade to pink.
This geranium's habit is upright and self-branching, so it builds a full canopy without constant pinching. Expect blooms from planting until frost, even in windy, exposed spots. It tolerates dry spells once established and is generally passed over by deer and rabbits, which makes it useful in open front yards. Bees and hummingbirds visit regularly, adding motion to patio displays. Use it to anchor hanging baskets, line a sunny border, or create a saturated block of color with several massed together.
Solera™ Purple Geranium Care
Grow Solera™ Purple in full sun to part sun (4–6+ hours daily) for best bud production. Plant in a loose, well-drained soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8, or choose a premium potting mix for containers. After planting, water thoroughly, then allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly before watering again. Established plants handle moderate dryness but bloom best with consistent moisture. Feed every 7–10 days with a balanced liquid fertilizer during active growth to support continuous flowering.
Remove finished flower stems by snapping them cleanly at the base to prompt fresh buds. If plants stretch midseason, shear lightly to restore shape and encourage new branching. Containers can be brought indoors before frost and kept in bright light to extend their display or overwinter.
Solera™ Purple Geranium Spacing
Space plants 10–12 inches apart in garden beds for a solid, mounded look. Use at least a 5-inch pot for single plants, or step up to larger patio containers for mixed arrangements. Combine with white bacopa, silver artemisia, and upright ornamental grass for color contrast, texture and height.
