Solera™ Red Geranium (Pelargonium interspecific 'TOSPL200522') delivers impressive clusters of bold red flowers from late spring through the warm months. It reaches roughly 12 to 18 inches in height and shows off healthy green foliage beneath each bloom. In our experience, it sustains consistent color and holds up well in both garden beds and containers. This hybrid sets itself apart with a combination of strong stems and continuous seasonal interest.
Developed from African geranium strains, it exhibits moderate drought tolerance and a reliable growth habit once established. Deer seldom nibble its leaves, and most common pests are easily managed. Some gardeners prefer to group it in mass plantings or borders, while others rely on it for a pop of color in window boxes or patio pots. Its compact size also lends itself to container gardening on balconies or decks.
Solera™ Red Geranium Care
Provide well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, and place it in full sun or partial shade based on local climate conditions. Water more frequently during the establishment phase, then taper off as roots develop, though supplemental moisture during hot spells helps preserve foliage. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer applied every two to four weeks promotes steady growth and prolonged blooms. Mulching lightly around the plant can reduce weeds and retain soil moisture.
Remove faded flower heads to extend the color period and pinch back any leggy stems if a bushier shape is desired. Strong shearing typically isn’t necessary, but light trimming of spent or damaged growth keeps the plant tidy. In colder regions, consider bringing container-grown specimens indoors or discarding them at season’s end. We recommend reducing watering in winter and keeping pots in a cool area with moderate light.
Solera™ Red Geranium Spacing
When creating rows or mass groupings, leave 12 to 15 inches between plants for proper airflow and growth. A single specimen in a border setup requires about 15 inches of space from neighboring plants. Start with a container about 10 inches in diameter for a new geranium, and upgrade if you plan to combine it with other plant varieties or allow for additional root expansion.
