Impatiens have a well-deserved reputation as being the go-to plant for shade-prone areas. Not only can these plants thrive in partial shade, but they feature vibrant flowers that add a blaze of color to a border, mass planting, or container. The vibrant blooms of the Soprano® Orange Bedding Impatiens will turn heads during the flower season, which starts in the spring and lasts until fall. Impatiens are easy to grow and have high water needs but are generally not very fussy.
Impatiens grow as a perennial in USDA zones 10 and 11. The plant grows as an annual in colder regions, but it can overwinter indoors. Impatiens are native to the tropics of Asia, making them heat-tolerant. The Soprano® Orange Bedding Impatiens can be grown in borders, containers, landscape, and mass plantings and used as ground cover.
Soprano® Orange Bedding Impatiens Plant Care
Impatiens have high water requirements and prefer soil that never completely dries out. Water Impatiens when the top layer of the soil is slightly damp, and during the heat of summer, deeply water the plants to prevent them from drying out. Soil should drain and have a pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Impatiens need part shade, and the ideal spot should receive 4 to 6 hours of sunlight exposure. This plant can tolerate some sun, but the more sunlight the plants receive, the more water will also be necessary.
Use a slow-release fertilizer during planting to help support the plant throughout the growing season. Pruning is not generally necessary, but you can lightly trim the plant if it starts to look leggy or overgrown.
Soprano® Orange Bedding Impatiens Plant Spacing
The Soprano® Orange Bedding Impatiens are a mounding plant that works very well as a filler in a bed or container. The plant grows 10 to 15 inches tall and should be spaced 8 to 10 inches apart. A 12-inch container can easily accommodate 2 to 3 plants.
