Impatiens add a burst of color to a shade or part shade space. The Soprano® Violet Shades Bedding Impatiens introduce a bright pop of consistent color to a bed or planter and will bloom from the spring through the fall. The broad green leaves narrow to a point and offer a nice contrast against the brilliant purple blooms. This mounding plant does not require much if any pruning, so it will thrive with very little maintenance.
Impatiens are versatile and can thrive in borders, landscapes, mass plantings, and containers. This plant prefers low light environments, but Impatiens are also heat-tolerant, so as the temperature climbs, the foliage and blooms will still look amazing. The plant will benefit from deep watering on particularly warm days. Impatiens hail from the tropics of Asia, so the plant likes moist growing conditions. The Soprano® Violet Shades Bedding Impatiens are disease-resistant for added convenience.
Soprano® Violet Shades Bedding Impatiens Plant Care
Low light and lots of water are generally the best way to care for Impatiens. The plant needs 4 to 6 hours of sunlight, and too much light will damage the foliage—water when the top layer of the soil feels damp. Impatiens do not like to dry out completely, but they do not like standing water, so the soil should retain some moisture but still drain. Neutral to slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5 helps the plants thrive. Fed Impatiens with a slow-release fertilizer when planting in the spring. Plants in containers will benefit from a dose of water-soluble fertilizer every other week throughout the growing season.
Impatiens are a perennial in USDA zones 10 and 11 and grow as an annual in other zones. Spent flowers usually fall off on their own but can be removed as necessary. Light pruning can help tidy up the look if the plant appears overgrown, although it is not usually needed.
Soprano® Violet Shades Bedding Impatiens Plant Spacing
Expect the Soprano® Violet Shades Bedding Impatiens to reach heights of 10 to 15 inches and to cover areas of 12 to 14 inches. When planting, give the plants 8 to 10 inches of space to create a lush carpet of greenery and blooms once the plants settle in. A 12-inch container is enough room for up to 5 Impatiens.
