Brighten up a shady garden bed or section of your yard with the vibrant Soprano® White Bedding Impatiens. These low-light loving plants are perennials in USDA zones 10 and 11 and can thrive as annuals in other zones. The 5-petaled flowers have a flat appearance, and this mounding plant will flourish and be shrouded in blooms during the spring, summer, and fall. Bright green leaves that are broad as the base and come to a point give the plant a full and bushy appearance.
Impatiens are native to the tropics of Asia, where they grow under the tree canopy, so this plant likes shade to part shade and has high water needs. Heat-tolerant Impatiens are mounding plants, which means they will create a full and lush plant that can overflow from a planter or transform a drab, shady bed. Impatiens can grow very well in borders, mass or landscape plantings, containers, and baskets.
Soprano® White Bedding Impatiens Plant Care
Impatiens like consistent water, so give the plant a drink when the top of the soil is damp and before it dries out. This plant is heat-tolerant, which means it can handle warmer temperatures, but keep in mind that as the temperature climbs, the ground will dry out more quickly. Deeply water Impatiens on hot days to keep them vibrant and perky. Place the plant in a spot that receives 4 to 6 hours of sunlight each day. Soil with a pH of 5.5 to 6.5 is ideal, and amending the soil with organic matter or using a slow-release fertilizer in the spring will set the plants up for success. Potted Impatiens will benefit from feeding with a water-soluble fertilizer every 2 weeks.
Part sunlight and routine watering are crucial to growing happy and healthy Impatiens. This plant typically maintains a neat appearance and does not need to be pruned, but you can remove any dead or overgrowth that forms throughout the growing season.
Soprano® White Bedding Impatiens Plant Spacing
Impatiens are very well suited to containers and mass plantings and grow 10 to 15 inches tall. Place plants 8 to 10 inches apart to give them space to grow while still creating a full look. A 12-inch container provides space for 2 to 3 plants.
