Stardiva® Pink Fan Flower (Scaevola aemula) captivates with delicate, cotton candy pink petals forming charming star-shaped blooms. Each blossom highlights a crisp white bullseye in the throat, ready to entice foraging bees from spring’s first warmth until late in the season. The compact form grows about 4 to 8 inches tall, with trailing stems that bring a soft, mounded accent to containers or garden edges. Undoubtedly, its extended bloom cycle and ease of care make it a prime candidate for effortless beauty in sunny settings.
These Australian natives embrace intense heat, humidity, and even drought once established. Their self-cleaning blooms simplify maintenance, and the tough foliage weathers windy or rainy conditions without complaint. Use them in container plantings for a near-constant show of pink color, or add them to bed and border plantings for an eye-catching ground-level feature. Place them at the front of the landscape or in hanging baskets to let the trailing stems spill gracefully over the sides.
Stardiva® Pink Fan Flower Care
Provide at least six hours of direct sun each day, and use moderately fertile, well-draining soil. Water regularly during the first weeks after planting, then adjust to keep soil lightly moist without overwatering. Feed periodically with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer to promote continued bloom production. Although hardy in zones 10 and 11, this annual brightens gardens in cooler climates all summer long.
Light pruning is rarely necessary, but you can trim lanky stems if desired to maintain a tighter shape. If the plant looks tired late in the season, a light trim can boost fresh growth. For potted specimens, use a quality potting mix, checking moisture levels frequently in hot weather. Position containers in a location where they receive full sun, and protect them from unexpected cold snaps if nighttime temperatures drop.
Stardiva® Pink Fan Flower Spacing
Place each plant 10 to 14 inches apart to create a lush groundcover or a uniform row along garden edges. If using a pot, choose one around 10 inches wide to offer the root system and trailing stems ample space.
