The Starfish Snake Plant is slightly unusual because unlike most snake plants that grow upright, this cultivar produces outward-growing, thick cylindrical leaves that look rather like a starfish. This compact houseplant is easy to care for and being a succulent, tends to thrive with a bit of neglect. A great air-purifying plant, Starfish Snake Plant is a great addition to any home or office environment.
Best Locations For Growing Starfish Snake Plant
Being relatively small, the Starfish Snake Plant is perfect for growing on a desk or shelf. It should be noted though that this plant is classified as toxic and should be kept away from children and animals.
Starfish Snake Plant Sunlight Requirements
The Starfish Snake Plant can cope with most light levels. However, to get the best from this unusual succulent, bright indirect light is recommended.
Starfish Snake Plant Care
Requiring a warm environment of 60 °F to 80 °F and average indoor humidity levels, this plant will tolerate most homes or offices without extra care. However, do not let the temperature fall below 55 °F as the plant may not recover. The Starfish Snake Plant rarely needs pruning except to remove any yellowing leaves that occur and can be removed at soil level.
Watering Starfish Snake Plant
Being a succulent, the Starfish Snake Plant stores moisture in its foliage and hates to be overwatered. Hence, watering is only advisable when the top inch or two of soil has dried out. To avoid root rot, any excess water must be allowed to drain away before placing the plant back in its decorative pot. On average, a fortnightly watering is enough during the summer months and can be reduced to every month during the winter.
Feeding Starfish Snake Plant
The Starfish Snake Plant is not a hungry plant and feeding is not strictly required. However, this plant can benefit from being fed during the growing season; use a general fertilizer specified for houseplants at half its usual strength.
