The Steakhouse Tomato Plant is a hybrid cultivar that produces large slicing tomatoes weighing up to 3 pounds each. The flavorful tomatoes can be eaten raw in salads and sandwiches or used in stews and sauces. This large plant produces big tomatoes, so stake the plants to hold up the stems. Steakhouse tomatoes are indeterminate and will continue to set flowers and produce tomatoes until the frost.

Steakhouse Tomato Plant Care

Tomato plants are not cold tolerant, so wait until there is no longer a threat of frost and the temperature is consistently warm to move the plants outdoors. The soil should be slightly acidic, rich, and well drained. Plant in full sun because this fast-growing plant needs plenty of light to produce its large fruit. Space plants about 30 inches apart so air can flow around the foliage.

Growing Steakhouse Tomato Plant

Plants reach maturity in 75 to 80 days, and tomatoes are ready to pick when they are a medium to deep red. Mature plants stand 5 to 7 feet tall and 24 to 36 inches wide. Use cages or a trellis for support.

Steakhouse Tomato Plants are commonly grown in garden beds because they are large, but this plant can also be grown in a container. Select a large container at least 20 inches wide with drainage.

Watering Steakhouse Tomato Plant

Tomatoes are thirsty plants, especially after they set fruit. Water tomato plants when the top layer of soil starts to dry. Deeply water to help the plants establish a robust root system.

Feeding Steakhouse Tomato Plant

Steakhouse Tomato Plants are fast growers that need help to bulk up and produce sizable fruit. Fertilize plants every three weeks using a 6:24:24 plant food or a formula specific for tomatoes.
