Give your fence line or trellis a dose of “Ole!” with this light apricot flowering vine. Specifically suited for areas where you want vertical interest, planting mandevillas along your fence or in a pot with a trellis make a wonderful focal point in your landscape or patio garden. A newer color for mandevillas, this light apricot pink flower with a glowing yellow center covers the medium green slightly cupped leaves and can vine up to eight feet.

Native to the Southwest US, Mexico, West Indies and South America, this specimen flowering vine can make a colorful splash in the cooler climates of Zones 3 to 9 in the spring after the last frost. It lives in full sun to part sun in most areas of the country, and enjoys some light shade in extremely hot regions where it can provide year round blooms. After temperatures fall below 45 degrees though, this annual will go dormant and will be killed off by a frost. Bring it indoors for the winter and set it out again when warm weather returns.

Sun Parasol Apricot Mandevilla Care

Mandevillas are an easy plant to grow with proper care. Regular watering when dry, fertilize with a high phosphorus fertilizer to encourage prolific blooms and watch for aphids, mealy bugs and spider mites which are attracted to this vine. Insecticidal soap or Neem oil applications may be necessary to keep this plant healthy and are essential prior to bringing indoors for the winter. If you bring this indoors, it will go dormant, but with proper care it will come back in the spring when the weather warms and you set it back outside. Mandevillas thrive in a neutral soil with a pH range of 6.6 to 7.8.

Deadheading is not required on this vine as the blossoms will close and drop off. It is a continuous rebloomer when it is happy, so get ready for a season long display of color. Trim vines if they overstep their bounds, or let them happily trail for a massive display.

Sun Parasol Apricot Mandevilla Spacing

Space plants from 24 to 36 inches apart and give some support system for them to grow on. It is not unusual for this vine to reach up to 8 feet long and spread up to 36 inches. A large container with a trellis lends visual interest and gives this rambler great support to start its upward climb. Pair with ground cover annuals to provide visual interest and aid in maintaining good moisture control on your soil and suppress weeds.
