The classic good looks of the Sunbeckia® Carolina Black-Eyed Susan give any outdoor space an instant summertime atmosphere. The Rudbeckia hirta Sunbeckia 'Carolina' boasts large flowers with two rows of yellow petals. Dark orange accents near the center of the plant add dimension, while the brown seed cone provides additional color and texture. The long-lasting flowers bloom from summer through fall.
This annual has a rounded, well-branched form, and green foliage fills in the gaps, creating a full appearance. The Sunbeckia® Carolina Black-Eyed Susan makes a wonderful addition to landscapes and borders. Create a stunning mass planting, or use this beauty as a filler in a container. Pollinators, especially bees, enjoy the large flowers.
Sunbeckia® Carolina Black-Eyed Susan Care
Place the Sunbeckia® Carolina Black-Eyed Susan in full sun. For containers, the ideal potting soil will be fertile, moist, and well drained. Keep the soil moist, and be prepared to water container-grown plants more often than those in the ground. Apply a slow-release fertilizer in the spring.
Remove spent flowers to extend the bloom cycle. Remove all growth after the first frost of the fall.
Sunbeckia® Carolina Black-Eyed Susan Spacing
The Sunbeckia® Carolina Black-Eyed Susan reaches 14 to 16 inches tall and wide. Space plants 14 to 16 inches apart or grow one plant in a 14-inch container.
