The classic good looks of the Suncredible® Saturn™ Sunflower will immediately bring to mind images of warm, sunny days. This plant, also known as Helianthus, reaches heights of 36 inches, blooms throughout the spring, summer, and fall, and features yellow and brown blooms that measure 4 inches across. This variety has a long bloom cycle and typically will have flowers for several weeks longer than other varieties of Sunflower. It is excellent for cut flowers.
The Suncredible® Saturn™ Sunflower is native to North America, more specifically Missouri. The height makes this plant a great option for the back of a flower bed or along a fence, or in a planter, and while it can make an excellent focal point, it also can be used to create a spectacular mass planting. This plant is stunning on its own, but it is known to attract bees and butterflies for added fun and enjoyment. This easy-care plant is heat- and drought-tolerant and deer- and disease-resistant.
Suncredible® Saturn™ Sunflower Plant Care
As the name implies, Sunflowers enjoy lots of sunlight, and the Suncredible® Saturn™ Sunflower needs at least 6 hours of full sun to reach its full potential. This plant has average water needs, so wait until the top 3 inches of the soil dry out before watering. Well-draining somewhat alkaline soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5 is ideal. Amend the soil with organic material when planting or use a slow-release fertilizer to support the rapid growth. Feed the plant again in the middle of the summer to support continuous blooms.
This plant grows as a perennial in USDA growing zones 9, 10, and 11. In all other areas, it is grown as an annual. Spent flowers can be removed to maintain a clean appearance and promote new growth. Strong wind can damage the plant, so select an area not prone to high winds or protected by buildings or other plants.
Suncredible® Saturn™ Sunflower Plant Spacing
This upright plant can grow to 24 to 36 inches, making it a great way to add color and height to a garden area or planter. Plants should be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart, so each Sunflower has the room it needs to thrive.
