- Use As A Thriller In Containers
With its deep green foliage and shocking orange flowers, SunPatiens® Compact Electric Orange Impatiens will add an intense exclamation mark to any container or garden planting. The thick flowers are highly tolerant of heat, humidity, and most common diseases, giving these plants added staying power from late spring to the first frost in fall. Impatiens x hybrida perform as well in full sun as they do in the shade with minimal maintenance and absolutely no color fading.
Plant SunPatiens® in containers for a display bursting with seasonal color. They also make wonderful bedding plants in a sunny or shady garden border. SunPatiens® are often used as filler plants in mixed containers. Electric Orange SunPatiens® also works as a thriller plant in a hanging basket or window box for a modern and effective block of color.
SunPatiens® Compact Electric Orange Impatiens Care
Plant SunPatiens® in well-draining, nutrient-rich soil that retains moisture. Mulching plants in the garden will help the soil retain moisture while also suppressing annual weeds that compete for nutrients and moisture. SunPatiens® do not require deadheading; they are self-cleaning and bloom continuously. Lightly pinch back the stems at the time of planting to encourage a bushier form. Pinching again later in the summer as flowering slows will set your SunPatiens® up for the last flush of flowers through the fall.
Although SunPatiens® are considered tender perennials in USDA growing zones 10a-11b, they often die out after 2-3 years. For the best color and healthiest plants, replant SunPatiens® in the spring when the risk of frost has passed and night-time temperatures are reliably above 50 degrees F (10C).
SunPatiens® Compact Electric Orange Impatiens Spacing
The smaller size of SunPatiens® Compact Electric Orange Impatiens makes them ideal for filling empty spots in containers or hanging baskets throughout the summer months. Typically, three plants will grow well and fill up a 10-inch diameter hanging basket. Plants used in a garden bed will need a spacing of 10-12 inches.
