SunPatiens® Compact Purple Candy Impatiens (Impatiens x hybrida 'SAKIMP071') brings an exciting blend of purple-red petals on mounded, sturdy plants that keep flowering from spring through frost. In our experience, these bicolor blooms hold strong in heat, humidity, and even part-shade conditions, delivering color wherever you place them. Each flower displays a striking contrast against fresh green foliage, making it an engaging choice for gardeners craving season-long displays. We find this variety remarkably fun to grow for patio containers, window boxes, or bold garden beds.

Its compact habit and dependable performance suit both bright sun areas and partially shaded corners. This annual thrives in average soils with moderate moisture, allowing you to create mass plantings, borders, or showy focal points with minimal fuss. Bred for disease resistance, Compact Purple Candy Impatiens exhibit fewer pest issues and can handle intense summer temperatures. Native to tropical regions, impatiens have succulent-like stems that help them maintain vigor in challenging conditions.

SunPatiens® Compact Purple Candy Impatiens Care

Provide well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, and water thoroughly whenever the top layer feels dry. This beauty grows best in full sun to part sun, allowing flexible placement in most landscapes. A balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every couple of weeks supports new buds, especially during active growth phases. Maintain even moisture to keep the plants lush and continuously blooming.

Light trimming often isn’t necessary, though any leggy stems can be pinched back to retain a neat form. Container-grown SunPatiens should be checked regularly for watering needs, as pots can dry out quickly under high heat. If overnight temperatures drop below 50°F, consider moving planters to a protected area. In our trials, these impatiens responded well to occasional deadheading, though they typically self-clean.

SunPatiens® Compact Purple Candy Impatiens Spacing

Place each plant 12 to 22 inches apart in a row or mass planting, depending on your desired fullness. For container arrangements, choose a pot around 10 to 12 inches wide to balance adequate root room with efficient water use.
