Add a splash of color that will last all season with this plant’s large clusters of showy, blush-pink flowers. Sunstar® Pink Egyptian Star Flower truly shines from planting to frost. It has an upright habit, 18-22 inches in height. This award-winning pentas is a must-have for any style of garden.
Deer seldom damage these plants that are also disease resistant; plus, they have a moderate to high resistance to drought. They are not only lovely but provide food for pollinators: attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds that are drawn to their easy-access, shallow blooms. Pentas grow wild in the Arabian Peninsula and Eastern Africa. Use them as a filler in containers. Create mass plantings in the landscape. They are the perfect height for the middle of the mixed border, for small spaces, and along walkways. They make great cut flowers.
Sunstar® Pink Egyptian Star Flower Care
Pentas do best with a controlled-release fertilizer at planting and again midsummer. They can tolerate poorer soils but prefer a pH close to 7. This easy-care plant does not need deadheading, nor cutting back. Its water needs are average, preferring soil moisture about the same as a wrung-out sponge. Note that when they are drought-stressed they become susceptible to spider mites. A full-sun location is best, but it will endure some shade – just give it at least three hours of direct sun each day. They love heat and humidity.
You can grow this plant indoors if you have high light levels. Bring them indoors before the first frost and place them in a cool room on a tray filled with gravel and water.
Sunstar® Pink Egyptian Star Flower Spacing
In a 12-inch container, space one Sunstar® Pink Pentas with two Sunstar® Pink caladium and one Diamond Snow® Euphorbia. Give them 10-14 inches of space in landscape beds. Pentas have a spread of 16-24 inches, but it is okay to place them closer when creating container gardens.
