Talk about an award winner. Sunstar Rose pentas has earned perfect scores in at over 10 trial gardens throughout the country. Heat and drought tolerant, pentas are disease-resistant blooming machines. Sometimes called Egyptian star flower, Sunstar Rose gets about 22 inches tall and wide, making it a good candidate for a mass planting in the landscape or as filler in a pot. Sunstar Rose blooms all summer to frost.
Hummingbirds, butterflies and bees visit the star-shaped, pink, rounded flowers. The flower color may vary, depending on whether planted in sun or part shade. Sunstar pentas come in three other colors. The flowers can be cut for indoor enjoyment.
Sunstar® Rose Egyptian Star Flower Care
Grow pentas in full sun (6-plus hours) to part sun (4 to 6 hours). The more sun, the more plentiful large flowers you’ll have. Removing spent flowers, called deadheading, is not necessary to keep Sunstar pentas blooming.
It prefers decent soil and evenly moist conditions. It also can be grown in poor soil. Water when the top inch of soil is dry to the touch. Pentas is not recommended as a houseplant.
Sunstar® Rose Egyptian Star Flower Spacing
Plant one to three in about any size container, using the pentas as filler. In the landscape, plant 10 to 14 inches apart. Pentas are quite striking in a mass planting because of the long bloom period.
