Long-blooming Superbells Blue Calibrachoa is probably one of the best flowering annuals for flowing over the edges of pots, hanging baskets or window boxes. It’s as if it was designed just for that job. Sometimes called million bells, Superbell Blue Calibrachoa has tiny blue-purple, petunia-like flowers along the stems.
The small flowers attract hummingbirds along with other pollinators. Superbell Blue Calibrachoa is 6 to 10 inches tall with a trailing habit of 30 inches. It gets up to 24 inches wide. Growing this plant in a container is recommended. It is tolerant of cooler temps, frequently carrying its beauty well into fall. You frequently will find calibrachoa for sale as a fall-season annual.
Superbells Blue Calibrachoa Care
Water calibrachoa when the top inch or two of the soil is dry. Use high quality potting mix, which is specially formulated to aid drainage, which is critical to success with this plant. If it starts to look lanky, take snips and cut it back to strong growth. Calibrachoa tends to do better with an acid-type fertilizer. Apply according to the label’s directions.
Grow calibrachoa in full (6+ hours) to part sun. Be sure not to over water. Superbell Blue Calibrachoa is not recommended as a houseplant. Snip a few strands to drape over the edges of a vase of flowers for indoor enjoyment.
Superbells Blue Calibrachoa Spacing
In a 10- or 12-inch hanging basket, plant two or three, which will quickly fill the space. Or mix it with other annuals, where it can wind around companion plants and softens the edges of pots.
