Superbells® Double Redstone Calibrachoa features hundreds of delicate funnel-shaped florets in shades of crimson and vermillion, edged in gold and resting atop dense evergreen foliage. Typically maintained in containers, this herbaceous annual adds bold color and texture to porches, patios, decks, and bare spots in gardens. Also known as trailing petunias, this annual’s petunia-like flowers bloom from spring until fall and are self-cleaning. You could not ask for a better hybrid to churn out vibrant color three seasons of the year. Its beautiful flowers will not only please you, but will also delight neighborhood pollinators, including butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees.
Originating from South America, Superbells® Double Redstone Calibrachoa has a vigorous, trailing growth habit. Cold hardy in only zones 9-11, this annual is heat tolerant, low maintenance, and easy to care for. Even the most inexperienced gardener can enjoy its bold color and soft texture on a patio, entryway, deck, or yard. Its compact size and classy cascading habit make it suitable as a filler or spiller in containers. Plant it in large pots, hanging baskets, and window boxes, and soon, its striking blooms and foliage will explode over the container’s sides.
Superbells® Double Redstone Calibrachoa Care
To encourage maximum color and bushy growth, plant this rebloomer in full sun and in rich, moist, well-draining, acidic soil. The optimal pH is between 5.5-6.0. To acidify or to improve poorly draining soil, add compost to the planting site. While it appreciates moist soil, this annual balks at having wet feet. Water deeply, but only when the top two to three inches of soil are dry. Apply a balanced (e.g., 10-10-10) liquid fertilizer biweekly.
Superbells® Double Redstone Calibrachoa is a busy person’s dream! You get all of the beauty without any headaches. With its self-cleaning florets, deadheading spent blooms is not necessary. Trim the stems for bushier growth, but only if that’s to your liking.
Superbells® Double Redstone Calibrachoa Spacing
Space plants 8 to 12 inches apart. Plant this Calibrachoa as a spiller in a thriller-filler-spiller combination in a large container with companion plants, including geraniums (thriller) and zinnias (filler).
