Superbells® Double White Calibrachoa delivers fully double and pure white flowers in masses. The snow-white flowers and deep green foliage are the perfect foil for either bright or pastel colors in planters and hanging baskets. Superbells®, also known as Millionbells, dependably flower all season long with little maintenance. Unsurprisingly, they are some of the most popular annuals in any gardening zone. The naturally compact habit will provide plenty of filler for your container thriller, or provide a temporary ground cover for smaller spaces in the garden.
Pure white and double flowers can lend just the right touch to formal planters in an entryway or to a planting strip along a walkway or patio. Superbells® are consistently rated as one of the best performing Calibrachoa varieties for hanging baskets and window boxes. Their disease tolerance is excellent and few pests are known to be a problem.
Superbells® Double White Calibrachoa Care
Calibrachoa is primarily grown as an annual plant. Choose a potting mix with perlite added for both drainage and moisture retention. A potting mix labeled for use with acid-loving plants is ideal. Calibrachoa sometimes needs a light trim late in the summer to continue looking good through the fall. Prune back the stems to encourage fresh, new growth that will be covered in flowers in no time.
Maintain a regular schedule of fertilizing from planting to the end of August for robust growth. Diluted liquid formulations are the easiest to apply to containers. Use a fish emulsion or liquid seaweed formula every 3-4 weeks.
Calibrachoa is a frost-tender perennial that only grows outdoors year-round in USDA zones 9-11 The good news is that this plant can be overwintered as a houseplant. Set the plant in a west- or east-facing window. The plant pots may need to be turned once or twice a month to keep the overall shape even. Do not fertilize or over-water the plants during this time, and keep them out of drafts from doors, windows, and furnace vents. Once temperatures are reliably above 50 degrees F in the spring, Calibrachoa can be placed back outside for another season.
Superbells® Double White Calibrachoa Spacing
Superbells® Double White will reach an ultimate spread of 2 feet during a growing season. Because they are mainly grown in containers and hanging baskets, plants can be spaced fairly close together. A single plant will need a pot with at least a 6-inch diameter. Hanging baskets or planters with a 14-16 inch diameter will comfortably fit three plants, evenly arranged along the edge of the container.
