Holy Moly!® is ready to put on a show in your garden from spring to fall with masses of distinctive bicolored blooms. The tiny, petunia-type flowers have mottled yellow petals with cherry red stars. A compact plant, it grows 6-12 inches high with a bushy shape that it maintains even when stressed. It has a cascading habit, trailing up to 24 inches. With a tolerance for heat, it will not decline during hot summers.
This Calibrachoa hybrid also tolerates drought, it is vigorous, and livens up immediately after rain. It is disease resistant, and deer do not seem interested in browsing it. A South American native, it will attract beautiful hummingbirds to your garden. Its mounded, trailing habit is most suited to well-draining hanging baskets and containers because it doesn’t like constantly damp soil. It is easy to grow as a filler or trailer in raised beds and window boxes. This plant is a stunning addition to city or courtyard gardens, informal and cottage gardens, and traditional spaces.
Superbells® Holy Moly!® Calibrachoa Care
Fertilize regularly with a water-soluble fertilizer containing chelated iron. If the leaves turn yellow this indicates an iron deficiency. A 10-14-day fertilization cycle is best to replace lost nutrients. This is especially important with containers. Deadheading is not necessary. To ensure continuous blooming trim lightly at planting, then after four weeks. Prune straggly plants in late summer by several inches but remove no more than 20% of the plant.
Proper watering is key: water only when the top of the soil is dry to the touch. In the landscape, plant in fertile soil, bearing in mind that this plant does not like a high nor a low pH, nor soggy soil. In containers, use a good quality potting mix with excellent drainage. Make sure your calibrachoa has enough light. It prefers full sun and will tolerate a light shade.
Superbells® Holy Moly!® Calibrachoa Spacing
Holy Moly! is gorgeous in any container, either alone or in combination with other plants. Space the plants six inches apart. Try putting a taller plant in the middle with four calibrachoa around it. Suitable tall plants are purple fountain grass, Angelonia, and coleus. Add a filler such as lantana or marigolds, or another trailer like bacopa. You will find that it is a little trickier to grow calibrachoa in the border unless you have excellent drainage. Space them 8-12 inches apart and mulch them well.
