There are 41 color combinations available in the Superbells series of Calibrachoa and Superbells Pink holds its own, with its bright pink cheerful blooms that can completely cover the medium green foliage. A smaller bloom than some of the colors, Pink will wow you with the sheer amount of blossoms it produces all season long. Spring to fall color, bright cheerful color and a vigorous fast growing habit...what is not to love!
Give calibrachoa the environment it thrives in, like its native hot humid grasslands of South America, Zones 9a to 11b, and it will respond by giving you a full season of blooms. Grown as an annual in Zones 3-8, this fast growing annual will quickly fill in your landscape or container garden. It makes a wonderful ground cover when soil conditions are optimal. Most gardeners, however, find that it is easiest to maintain in a hanging basket or large container as they can control soil moisture much better this way.
Superbells® Pink Calibrachoa Care
Soil moisture is the number one topic when discussing calibrachoa care. It will not tolerate soggy soil. If your garden bed does not drain well, consider planting these beautiful flowers in a raised bed garden. They prefer a pH of 5.5 to 5.8 and are heavy feeders. Use a balanced 24-12-17 NPK water soluble fertilizer when first establishing them, and then follow up every six to eight weeks with a half strength water soluble fertilizer. If yellowing of leaves occurs, consider applying a water soluble chelated iron directly to the soil or sprayed as a foliar to correct this nutrient imbalance.
Deadheading is not necessary as these plants will clean up spent blooms for you. When first planting this annual, consider pinching them back a little to stimulate branching and new flower production. Since these are fast growing plants when they have the conditions they like, a light shearing once or twice in the growing season will help keep them compact and vigorous.
Superbells® Pink Calibrachoa Spacing
Calibrachoas spread out wider than they are tall, so give them 8-12 inches of space between other plants. They will grow to about 12 inches tall and spread out about 24 inches. Superbells Pink distinguishes itself by being one of the longest trailing Superbells at a whopping 30 inches and makes a wonderful hanging basket addition for that reason. Another great way to showcase Superbells calibrachoa is to plant them in a rock garden where you can control the moisture and allow them to cascade over the rocks for a beautiful display. Moral of the story: give calibrachoas the growing environment they enjoy and they will provide all season long beauty for your garden.
