Pass the Punch! You couldn’t ask for a better companion to spark up your summer baskets. In a luscious shade of watermelon, with a darker edge surrounding a tiny yellow eye, this stunner adds sophistication and cheer to your container combos. The flowers look like elf-sized petunias, but sans stickiness and constant deadheading. In fact, this calibrachoa keeps pumping flowers through fall without deadheading.
This award-winning calibrachoa hybrid is a standout for hanging baskets, patio pots, and raised beds. Watermelon Punch is a trailer who mounds to about 12 inches high and a dramatic 30 inches long as a spiller. In-ground planting requires excellent drainage to keep calibrachoas happy, so consider a raised bed, even a low one, for this purpose.
Superbells® Watermelon Punch Calibrachoa Care
Calibrachoas are such welcome, easy-care annuals. They will bloom in full sun or even in light shade with some fertilizer and a moderate pH level. They’ll tolerate light shade, but you’ll see the best flower production in full sun.
Some troubleshooting tips: the first thing to check if you are seeing weak growth, or yellow leaves, is to make sure you have been using a balanced fertilizer. In containers, you want to repeat at regular intervals according to the product instructions. According to Proven Winners the ratio to look for N-P-K is one approximately 24-12-17). Assuming you have been fertilizing, it could be that the pH of the soil has gone too high or too low. You can apply a foliar spray of iron chelate to “green up” the leaves again.
If desired to create bushier growth, you can prune calibrachoas at any time with a scissor, clippers or shears. They will respond to the pruning with beautiful full growth and a new crop of flowers in a few days.
Superbells® Watermelon Punch Calibrachoa Spacing
You’ll want to give this calibrachoa about eight to 12 inches of space, and expect it to spread 12-24 inches across, and trail up to 30 inches down.
