The pink to dark purple ombre flowers of Petunia Supertunia Bordeaux (Petunia hybrid) will make this plant your all-time favorite petunia. It will provide spectacular color in your garden from spring through fall in part to full sun growing conditions. The veins in the petals are dark purple. This petunia will grow to between 6 and 12 inches in height with an 18 to 24-inch spread. It grows in a slightly mounded growing habit.
This plant has received numerous awards, including top performer and consumer choice. This short plant can be grown in the front of your garden beds, in mass plantings, and as a container plant in flower boxes, hanging baskets, or pots. The flowers will trail over the sides of the container up to 30 inches in length. The flowers will attract butterflies and hummingbirds. It’s also heat and drought tolerant.
Supertunia Bordeaux Petunia Care
If you’re growing this plant in a container, allow the soil surface to dry out between waterings and make sure the pot has a drainage hole. Add a balanced, water-soluble slow-release fertilizer to the soil at the time of planting. Fertilize container-grown plants after two months. The extra dose of fertilizer will keep your Petunia Supertunia Bordeaux looking fresh and prolong the flowering period.
Deadheading is not required for continuous blooms but if the plant begins to look tired or becomes leggy, trim it back by up to one-third. This plant is typically grown as an annual, but it is hardy in zones 10 to 11. It may survive indoors as a houseplant in full sun conditions.
Supertunia Bordeaux Petunia Spacing
In a garden bed, space plants 12 - 24 inches apart, center on center. They can be planted a minimum of 6 inches apart in a container to achieve a fuller look. They’ll look great combined with petunias with other color blooms or flowering annuals with smaller or large flowers.
