Quickly becoming a bestseller, this super petunia hybrid, Supertunia Honey, is turning heads. With an ever changing palette of color, this improved hybrid shifts from yellow to pink and all colors in between. With its slightly mounding habit, it is destined to become the focal point of your next container or hanging basket. Pair it with brilliant pinks, cool greens, glowing purples or pop it with a trail of silvery foliage for a beautiful presentation.
This heat and drought tolerant annual will be an easy maintainer in your spring to fall garden. Whether you mass it out in your landscape, border or edging, or showcase it in a container, hanging basket or window box, you will enjoy a three season display with just a little care from you. Native to zones 10a through 11b, most of the varieties we see are annual hybrids in Zones 3 to 9.
Supertunia Honey Petunia Care
Set out new plants in the spring after the last frost. Petunias are heavy feeders but that is easily accomplished with a controlled release fertilizer, once a year if planted in the ground unless your season is unusually long, and once every two months with a water soluble fertilizer if you are growing in a container. Container plants do need more intervention from you than in ground plants. Soil pH around 5.5 to 5.8, slightly acidic, will give you best results.
No deadheading is needed for continuous bloom, but if your plants are starting to look a little tired, or are getting leggy, this plant will benefit from a light pruning. Use sharp scissors and cut back about ⅓ to encourage branching and renewed flowering, and give it a light dose of fertilizer at the same time. These really are very vigorous plants and you will appreciate the results of your efforts. It is resistant to most plant diseases and insects rarely bother them.
Supertunia Honey Petunia Spacing
Proper spacing is important for plant health in all garden spaces and petunias need their space, too. Mounding slightly from 6 to 12 inches and spreading out 18 to 24 inches, space your plants out 18 to 24 inches when planting in landscape. Placing them in the front of your garden or container will allow them to spill out, gracefully filling in the leading edge. Intersperse contrasting color Supertunias, there are at least 25 colors available, or accent your plantings with calibrachoas, nemesias, verbena, annual grasses or dahlias for a fantastic season long display.
