The Supertunia Mini Vista® Scarlet Petunia is a vigorous hybrid plant that continues to bloom from spring through fall. The delicate bell-shaped flowers are a rich scarlet hue and look lovely on their own or when included with other flowering plants. Small green leaves grow along the vines but are hard to notice due to the abundant flowers.
Grow this plant in beds, borders, or containers. Feature this beauty in a hanging basket or window box so the long vines can trail, and the flowers can be fully displayed. You can also use this power bloomer to create a stunning ground cover. This plant is easy to maintain and is both drought and heat tolerant. The Supertunia Mini Vista® Scarlet Petunia is grown as an annual in most areas, but you can grow this Petunia hybrid as a perennial in zones 10 and 11.
Supertunia Mini Vista® Scarlet Petunia Care
The Supertunia Mini Vista® Scarlet Petunia needs 4 to 6 hours of sunlight. Plant it in soil with high organic content that is moist but promotes drainage. The Supertunia Mini Vista® Scarlet Petunia is a heavy feeder; rich soil, along with an application of blanched fertilizer during planting and mid-summer, are enough to keep this plant growing and blooming throughout the growing season. Water this plant when the top few inches of soil are dry. Container plants may need water daily, depending on the amount of sunlight the plant receives.
Deadheading is unnecessary, and spent flowers naturally fall away. Pinch back new growth to encourage a bushy appearance or trim the plant back by one-third about halfway through the summer if the growth is looking leggy. Apply fertilizer after a midsummer pruning to help jumpstart new growth. Potted plants can be cut back and brought inside in the fall to be grown as houseplants.
Supertunia Mini Vista® Scarlet Petunia Spacing
The Supertunia Mini Vista® Scarlet Petunia will reach 6 to 12 inches tall and spread 18 to 24 inches. Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart in the ground or feature 4 to 5 plants in a 12-inch container. Stems can trail 24 inches, so place the container high enough for the limbs to hang down.
