A work of art indeed! Eye-popping contrast on a river of blossoms makes for stunning displays with Picasso in Purple. Pairing hot magenta with a zingy twist of lime on the edge that looks painted on, this self-cleaning petunia needs no deadheading and will reward you with living artwork in tropical color all season long.
Attracting both butterflies and hummingbirds, your garden will rival Frida Kahlo’s in no time. The high-performing blooms keep coming all season until a hard frost, and shrug off heat and humidity. At only six to 12 inches high, Picasso in Purple can trail up to 30 inches, making a superlative choice for hanging baskets and containers as either filler or spiller, as well as for massing as an edging or groundcover in the garden.
Supertunia® Picasso in Purple® Petunia Care
Supertunias are heat tolerant, unfussy and need only occasional maintenance. They only require average soil and water, and can bring the bloom in both sun and partial sun, although of course, sun will bring out the best flowering. Supertunias are relatively heavy feeders. At planting time, include controlled-release fertilizer for both landscape and container planting. In containers, you may want to follow up again perhaps every two months, if your region enjoys a long garden season. For best performance, use a water-soluble fertilizer regularly starting two months after planting.
An occasional trim will refresh a tired Supertunia. Just trim back approximately 1/3 of the growth using a small shears or scissors, perhaps while applying some water-soluble fertilizer, and stand back! You’ll see a rebound of blooms and leaves, creating a bushier plant within a few days.
Supertunia® Picasso in Purple® Petunia Spacing
Since Picasso in Purple can range outwards from 18 to 24 inches across, a good rule of thumb for spacing would be 12 inches in containers to 24 inches apart in the garden.
