Lavender purple flowers with blue vein and throats literally blanket the green foliage on this Supertunia Trailing series petunia hybrid. One of the best petunias for your landscape, it will fill in your space with masses of bright, long continuous blooms from spring until fall. An improved hybrid in the Supertunia series, Trailing petunia is a vigorous growing annual that you will not regret using in your container garden as well. This award winning top seller is a must for your spring garden!

Native to South America where it is a full sun loving perennial, Zones 10a to 11b, petunias are a part of the nightshade family. In Zones 2-9 it is grown as an annual, brightening spring to fall gardens across the country. In the hottest regions it appreciates some afternoon shade where it continues to bloom profusely, not skipping a beat. There are five other colors in the Supertunia Trailing petunia series for you to mix and match.

Supertunia® Trailing Blue Veined Petunia Care

Unlike some petunia cultivars, Supertunias are very heat and drought tolerant. In the hottest regions, in full sun, during dry periods, they keep on blooming. Plant in early spring after the danger of the last frost has passed, give them a slow release fertilizer in loose, well draining soil with an average pH of 5.5 to 5.8, water when dry for best performance, and that’s it. In long warm season regions you may want to supplement with a water soluble fertilizer for prolonged bloom.

Deadheading is not necessary with Supertunias as spent blooms will drop off on their own. Pinch back when first established to promote branching and subsequently more blossoms. Prune if it becomes too aggressive and exceeds its bounds and remove dry or yellowed foliage when present. Shearing once or twice in a season will help retain its shape and renew flowering.

Supertunia® Trailing Blue Veined Petunia Spacing

Space Supertunias 12 to 18 inches apart to give room to grow and plenty of air circulation. These are low growing mounding trailing plants that top out at about 8 inches tall and spread out to about 36 inches. They trail about 36 inches and make attractive hanging baskets or container plants. Plant in the foreground of your garden bed for an outstanding display. Supertunias pair beautifully with verbena, sutera, angelonia, calibrachoa, gypsophila, helichrysum, nemesia, and browallia as well as with upright grasses for a full season of color.
