The Supertunia Vista® Jazzberry™ Petunia boasts long-lasting flowers in a rich purple hue. This mounding, trailing plant blooms continuously in the spring, summer, and fall, and whether it is used as a tremendous trailing beauty or a vibrant mass planting, it will not disappoint. The large, bell-shaped flowers are a deep shade of purple and have a dark indigo eye. The abundant blooms typically overtake the green foliage.
The Supertunia Vista® Jazzberry™ Petunia grows in zones 10 and 11 as a perennial. This plant grows in other zones as an annual and will die back when the first hard frost hits. Petunias are native to South America, making this plant both heat- and drought-tolerant. The Supertunia Vista is versatile and can easily handle container, landscape, and mass planting. The striking flowers of this Petunia attract hummingbirds and butterflies.
Supertunia Vista® Jazzberry™ Petunia Plant Care
This plant needs at least 4 hours of sunlight, but it can handle 6 or more daylight hours. The plant will need water when the top few inches of soil dry out, and the amount of light the plant receives will impact how quickly the soil dries out. Use well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0 to 7.0. Petunias are heavy feeders, and applying a slow-release fertilizer in the spring and midseason will help ground plants thrive. Container Petunias can be fed every 2 months using a water-soluble fertilizer.
Spent flowers will naturally fall off, but you can pinch off dead blooms to maintain a tidy appearance. Partway through the growing season, the plant will look tired or overgrown so cut back scraggly sections to rejuvenate growth. You can remove up to ⅓ of the plant when pruning and follow up the trimming with a dose of fertilizer to help the plant push out new growth.
Supertunia Vista® Jazzberry™ Petunia Plant Spacing
This is a large, trailing Petunia that can be 12 to 24 inches tall and spread out 24 to 36 inches when planted in the ground. Give it plenty of space when planting and leave 18 to 32 inches around the plant, so it has room to grow. When grown in a container, include about 5 plants in a 12-inch pot. This variety can trail up to 36 inches, so use a hanging basket or place the container up high so the stems have room to cascade down.
