Plants Included In Sweet As Honey Annual Combination
As cool as a glass of ice water with a slice of lemon and as sweet as a teaspoon of honey, this annual combination will provide a refreshing contrast to the dark rich colors of the green of your lawn, and a sparkle of color against the expansive woodtones of your porch or deck. Looking like vintage wicker and lace, this frilly yellow and white combination of annuals is sure to draw compliments.
Like a match made in heaven, calibrachoa and euphorbia combine to create an easy to care for container garden. Both varieties require sharply draining soil, regular watering and a full sun location. Although both will tolerate some drought, they are best when kept hydrated. Bright white petite flowers are enhanced with yellow and white star striped blooms and frilly white clusters of minute flowers that blanket the green lush growth on this wonderful combination.
Sweet As Honey Annual Combination Care
You already know that these annuals require well draining soil and regular watering. For best results allow soil to dry out between waterings. Calibrachoa are heavy feeders and will require regular applications of water soluble fertilizer during the heaviest growing season. Euphorbia is used to taking its nutrients as they come, so it does not require heavy feeding. Use of a half strength water soluble fertilizer could meet the needs of both plants to great success.
Due to the mature size of these annuals, choose a larger 16 inch planter when purchasing the 4 ¼ or the 8 inch pot size plants. The calibrachoa will grow up 12 inches and spread out 24 inches, and trail up to 30 inches, and the euphorbia will grow approximately 18 inches tall and 18 inches wide. Interweave the stems when long enough to get the ‘all over’ variegated look that is desired. Deadheading is not required, although you will want to shear, or prune, the plants in midsummer to control size and reshape a plant that may be getting leggy. Reduce the over volume of the plant by up to ⅓ for best results.
Sweet As Honey Annual Combination Ideas
Most gardeners prefer to grow calibrachoa in containers due to their intolerance to soggy soil. Don’t let that restrict you from trying this combination in your garden bed or landscape border, though. Amend heavy compacted soil with soil conditioners like peat moss, sand and perlite, or consider utilizing raised beds for heavy clay soils. Either way, stand back and enjoy the refreshing color of this amazing annual flower combination.
