Tamayo Tomatillo Plants take 65 days from germination to bear fruit. Plant Tamayo Tomatillo in a full sun location that receives at least 5 hours of sunlight a day. These plants can grow up to 3-4 feet tall with a spread of 3-4 feet wide. If sowing seeds indoors, start seeds 6 weeks before the last frost.

Tamayo Tomatillo is an incredibly large and vigorous indeterminate plant that might be difficult to grow in containers. You will need a very large pot, at least 24 inches in diameter. Support the main stem with a large cage or stake. Tamayo Tomatillo should not be planted in combination planters due to its size.

Watering Tamayo Tomatillo Plant

Tamayo Tomatillo Plants will need 1 to 1.5 inches of water each week. If you do not receive 1-1.5 inches of rain, supplement with thorough waterings when the top layer of soil is dry.

Feeding Tamayo Tomatillo Plant

Tomatillos are not heavy feeders but they do benefit from occasional feeding. Feeding can boost both the plant’s health and fruit size. Use a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer or a formula for tomatoes at the time of planting and then once a month. Do not over fertilize plants.
