A typical David Austin showstopper, Teasing Georgia Rose is an English climbing rose consisting of 5-inch, double flowers with ultra-soft petals, fading from honey yellow to buttermilk from the center outwards. The blooms are supported by attractive imperial-green foliage that is vigorous and disease resistant. The cut flower-quality blooms appear from spring through autumn, this ornamental’s allure can be seen inside the home as well as outside in the yard. Its traditional tea perfume captivates pollinators such as bees and butterflies. This perennial, also known as Rosa Teasing Georgia™, 'P/27/88', 'AUSbaker', and 'TG2476', reaches a maximum height of 4 to 8 feet and spread of 3 to 4 feet and is cold hardy in zones 5 - 8.
An English original, Teasing Georgia Rose emanates a moderate tea fragrance. Bushy and climbing, this showy shrub can be trained to grow up a trellis or pole, or can be heavily pruned to maintain an average shrub-like appearance. Disease resistant and low maintenance, this vigorous perennial encounters few obstacles. Add this selection to a border or bed where its beauty can be regularly enjoyed.
Teasing Georgia Rose Care
Place Teasing Georgia Rose in a location that gets full sun. An easterly location with early morning sun is ideal. Plant it in a hole that is approximately the size of the rootball. The soil should be rich, moist, and well draining. Provide one to two inches of water per week when the top two inches of soil are dry. Conducting a moisture check prior to watering helps prevent the development of fungal disease. To encourage leaf growth during the spring, apply fertilizer with more nitrogen. Once this lovely shrub begins blooming, however, apply a fertilizer with less nitrogen such as an 8-12-4 formula once or twice monthly.
Teasing Georgia Rose is a repeat bloomer. Prune it in late winter/early spring. Cut back side stems to a few inches. Also trim any dead, diseased, damaged stems. Encourage horizontal versus vertical growth to increase the number of blooms. During the blooming season, deadhead spent flowers.
Teasing Georgia Rose Spacing
Space this profuse bloomer 4 to 5 feet apart. Teasing Georgia Rose provides an excellent focal point when planted as a specimen. Planted en masse, the effect of its color is multiplied. Plant Teasing Georgia Rose in borders beds/hedges/containers. Good companion plants include coneflower, Japanese anemone, and marigolds.
