- Yields Early, Snack-Size Tomatoes
- 30-42 Inches Tall
- 12-20 Inches Wide
- Plant in Full Sun
Tempting Tomatoes Garden Gem yields early, snack-size tomatoes for families all season long. The nearly bite-sized tomatoes are perfect for salads and snacking straight from the vine. Garden Gem loves heat and humidity, making it a versatile choice for vegetable growers. This new tomato works well in a vegetable garden, raised bed or container. It grows largest in the ground, but smaller – though still packed with fruit – in a container.
Garden Gem is a semi-determinate tomato, which means the fruit matures earlier than most and sometimes dies back before the growing season ends. Plant two Garden Gems 2 weeks apart for season-long snacking tomato harvests starting in less than 2 months. The award-winning Tempting Tomatoes Garden Gem is a new, breakthrough tomato that blends heirloom tomato flavor with a fast-growing plant and small fruit. The plant vines and produces all season but is compact enough to grow in a container.
Tempting Tomatoes Garden Gem Tomato Plant Care
Plant Garden Gem after the last spring frost. Give the tomato full sun and consistent watering. When planting, remove its lower leaves and bury it deeply in the soil or potting mix. Garden Gem grows smaller than many tomato plants, to about 42 inches high and 20 inches around in an upright bush shape. Be sure to add plenty of nutrients to the soil, such as an organic compost, when planting.
Growing Tempting Tomatoes Garden Gem Tomato Plants
Garden Gem is one of the earliest tomatoes to ripen in the garden or a container. It takes about 55 days from planting until you can harvest your first tomatoes to cut and enjoy. Even though Garden Gem is smaller than some tomato plants, it needs a cage or some sort of staking method to keep the plant upright and healthy.
Plant Tempting Tomatoes Garden Gem in a container that is at least 14 inches around at the top and at least a foot deep to give roots plenty of room. This plant likes moist soil, and containers can dry out quickly, so you might have to water Garden Gem in a container more often. Add the water slowly so it soaks in around the roots and does not wash potting mix nutrients out the bottom.
Watering Tempting Tomatoes Garden Gem Tomatoes
Water Garden Gem consistently and slowly with a drip or soaker system, not with overhead spraying. The plant will need regular watering to meet its growth and tomato harvest timeline.
Feeding Tempting Tomatoes Garden Gem Tomato Plants
Help Garden Gem grow and produce fruit with a balanced fertilizer. Don't over fertilize, or the plant will put more energy into stem and leaf growth than into setting fruit. Spread a fruit and vegetable fertilizer around the outside area of the plant, not against its main trunk, and then water as usual.
