Nothing says romance in a garden like a beautifully full and fragrant rose. The Alnwick® Rose is an incredibly romantic English shrub rose with gorgeous flowers that are perfect for any garden. The showy and cupped flowers open in a shade of soft pinkish coral, offset by gorgeous dark green and glossy foliage. The Alnwick® Rose flowers from early summer until the first frost. It was named after The Alnwick Garden in the UK.
The flowers of The Alnwick® Rose exude a lovely Old Rose fragrance of sweet lemon with a hint of raspberry. This shrub rose has an upright, rounded yet slightly bushy habit. The smaller habit makes this rose a great choice for containers, groupings, and mixed borders. Alnwick® is considered disease resistant with a vigorous growth habit.
The Alnwick® Rose Care
The Alnwick® Rose prefers a location in full sun. It tolerates various soil types but does best in rich soil that is well drained. Roses prefer slightly acidic soil with a pH of around 6.5 or neutral. The Alnwick® Rose requires regular watering and does not tolerate wet feet. Provide the plant with good air circulation by not overcrowding the plant to avoid fungal diseases. The Alnwick® Rose does not require heavy fertilizer; feed in the springtime with an all-purpose, organic fertilizer or a rose-specific fertilizer with a higher proportion of phosphorus such as 18-24-16.
Deadhead spent flowers of The Alnwick® Rose to extend the bloom period. Prune weak and old woody canes in the wintertime, and reduce the overall size of the shrub by half. Remove spent foliage in the winter time to reduce recurring foliar diseases. For container care, plant this shrub in an 8 - 15 gallon pot with good drainage. Place the container in a location that receives 5 - 6 hours of full sun a day and plenty of air circulation. Water the base of your potted rose plant when the top two inches of soil are dry.
The Alnwick® Rose Spacing
The Alnwick® Rose can grow up to 4 feet high and 3 feet wide. Space plants 30 - 36” apart to allow adequate room for growth.
