Bred by David Austin, this repeat flowering English shrub rose grows to around 4 feet tall and will be adorned with pink blooms all season long. Accompanied by a strong myrrh fragrance, the flowers entice, whether from the garden or a vase indoors.
The Ancient Mariner English Rose is a medium-sized shrub with an upright habit. Introduced in 2015, it is suitable for growing in USDA zones 4 to 11. This enchanting beauty is perfect for growing as part of a mixed border, in a dedicated rose garden, or as an informal, yet delightful hedge. It was named after The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, a spellbinding poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Even though you can grow The Ancient Mariner English Rose in partial shade, planting it in full sun will produce the best results. Some protection from glaring afternoon sun can be beneficial in southern areas. As a heavy feeder, a fertile loamy soil with good drainage is ideal if available. As roses prefer moist soil, frequent watering is needed to prevent the soil from drying out. An organic slow-release rose fertilizer applied as directed will help encourage reflowering.
As the blooms fade, deadhead to promote new flower buds. In late winter, prune the stems back by around 30% to an outward-facing bud.
