Growing Zones
Turn up the color all summer with vivid coral-pink flower clusters that keep blooming from early season into fall. Thunderstruck™ Coral Boom™ stays compact (great for small gardens and large containers) yet delivers big impact with continuous blooms, handsome branching, and attractive bark for off-season interest. Sun-loving, heat-tough, and low-fuss, it’s an easy way to add tropical flair without the maintenance.
Thunderstruck™ Coral Boom™ Crape Myrtle Care
Give this crape myrtle full sun for the best flowering and dense growth. Plant in well-drained soil (slightly acidic to neutral is ideal) and water regularly the first season to establish; once rooted, it’s drought tolerant and needs only occasional deep watering during prolonged dry spells. A 2–3" mulch layer helps conserve moisture and keep roots cool (keep mulch a few inches from the trunk).
Feed lightly in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Prune in late winter to remove dead or crossing wood and to shape—avoid “topping”; instead, make selective cuts to maintain its natural form. Good air flow and full sun help minimize common issues like powdery mildew. Hardy in roughly USDA Zones 7–10 (may die back and resprout in Zone 6).
Thunderstruck™ Coral Boom™ Crape Myrtle Spacing
Expect about 6–10 ft tall × 4–6 ft wide at maturity. For an informal flowering screen or hedge, space 5–7 ft on center. As a specimen near patios, walks, or driveways, allow 5–6+ ft from structures for air flow and graceful spread.
In large containers, choose a sturdy 18–24"+ pot with excellent drainage and position planters 2–3 ft apart for access and full sun exposure.
