The Totally Tempted® Vivid Violet™ Cuphea (Cuphea procumbens) stuns with its profusion of violet tubular flowers accented by a hint of magenta, blooming non-stop from spring through frost. This heat-loving annual offers unmatched flower power, making it perfect for adding color and charm to garden beds, borders, and containers. Its low, spreading habit makes it a superior choice for ground cover or cascading beauty in hanging baskets and window boxes. Unlike many flowering plants, it delivers season-long impact without requiring constant care.
Native to tropical regions, this Cuphea is heat and drought-tolerant, making it a resilient choice for sunny landscapes. The Totally Tempted® Vivid Violet™ Cuphea attracts hummingbirds and pollinators, adding movement and life to your garden. It grows in a neat, compact way, and its flowers drop off on their own, so you don’t have to trim them often. Ideal for mass plantings, it also grows in container gardens or as a filler in mixed arrangements, where its long-lasting blooms shine.
Totally Tempted® Vivid Violet™ Cuphea Care
Plant in well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH in full sun to part shade. Space plants where they will receive at least six hours of sunlight daily for optimal flower production. Water consistently but avoid oversaturation, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Apply a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer monthly to support vigorous growth and abundant blooms.
Pruning is minimal, as this plant naturally maintains a neat form. Deadheading is unnecessary due to its self-cleaning nature, but light trimming can be done to shape it if desired. In colder climates, treat this Cuphea as an annual. When planting in pots, make sure they have good drainage and add mulch to keep the soil moist in hot weather.
Totally Tempted® Vivid Violet™ Cuphea Spacing
Provide 12 to 18 inches of spacing between plants for mass plantings or borders to allow room for their spreading habit. For container planting, use pots that are at least 8 to 10 inches in diameter to accommodate healthy root growth and showcase its sprawling form.
